How We Farm
Regenerative. Organic. Local. Honest.
Our Farming Approach
We grow on a small acreage using regenerative organic practices. Our focus is on soil health, high-quality produce and simple systems that work with nature, not against it.
Here is what that looks like on our farm.
No Sprays. No Chemicals. Ever.
We do not use pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides or synthetic fertilisers.
Our farm is purely organic, built on natural inputs and soil biology.
Everything we grow is safe to eat straight from the field.
Regenerative Soil Practices
The health of the soil determines the health of the food.
We focus on building soil life through:
-
organic compost
-
mulch
-
organic matter
-
cover crops (where possible)
-
worm castings
-
farm-made liquid feeds
-
biodynamic preparations like 501
-
low-disturbance tools
Our goal is living soil with strong microbial life, good structure and consistent fertility.
No-Till Market Garden Beds
We follow a no-till or low-till approach
This means:
-
We do not turn or flip the soil
-
We form permanent beds
-
We add compost to the surface
-
We protect soil structure and biology
Every season shift, we rebuild and refresh beds by hand. It is labour-intensive but it produces healthier soil and nutrient-dense vegetables.
Tarping and Weed Management
Instead of sprays or heavy machinery, we use:
-
tarps to suppress weeds naturally
-
broadforking to loosen soil without disturbing layers
-
mulching to protect soil and retain moisture
-
hand weeding when necessary
This keeps our soil ecosystem intact.
Nets for Pest Pressure, Not Chemicals
To manage insects and birds, we use:
-
insect netting
-
row covers
-
healthy soil biology
-
crop rotations
-
biodiversity around the farm
Healthy plants grown in healthy soil naturally resist many pests.
Organic and Heirloom Seed
All of our seed and seedlings are:
-
certified organic
-
open-pollinated
-
heirloom where possible
We avoid genetically modified seed and chemically treated seed.
Organic seed gives us plants that are vigorous and adapted to real growing conditions.
Farm-Made Fertility
We keep fertility natural through:
-
compost teas
-
seaweed extracts
-
worm juice
-
fermented plant extracts
-
aged animal manures
-
biodynamic sprays
These inputs feed soil life rather than forcing plant growth.
Bee Pollination
We keep bees on the farm which help with vegetable pollination and contribute to our small honey harvest. Our bees are untreated and managed using gentle, natural methods.
Small Acreage, Big Hands-On Work
Everything is done by hand:
-
forming beds
-
harvesting
-
planting
-
washing and packing
Just real people growing real food.
Our seven children are part of the work too, learning STEM, ecology, biology, science, maths, and responsibility through the daily rhythm of farming. The farm is our family’s classroom and part of our homeschool life.
Why We Farm This Way
We farm this way because we believe food should be grown:
-
close to home
-
in living soil
-
without chemicals
-
with children in the field
-
with small hands and simple tools
-
with care for land and community
